WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Electronic Payments Coalition today released a new fact sheet highlighting how credit cards deliver everyday affordability by protecting consumers from fraud, returning value through rewards, helping small businesses grow and fueling the U.S. economy.
The data shows 96% of attempted fraud on card networks is blocked or refunded, nearly 70% of low- and moderate-income cardholders use rewards like cash back, and businesses accepting cards see average transaction sizes increase 10% to 15%.
Electronic payments have enabled more than $93 trillion in economic activity since 2006, while rewards generate additional economic activity and support American jobs. The fact sheet underscores how the Durbin-Marshall Credit Card Mandates could put these benefits at risk for consumers, small businesses and the broader economy.
