WASHINGTON, DC — The Electronic Payments Coalition today announced Erik Johnson has been named Managing Director of U.S. Government Affairs. Johnson brings more than 20 years of financial services policy and government affairs experience to the role. He will work alongside EPC Executive Chairman Richard Hunt, the EPC team and EPC’s federal coalition partners to strengthen and protect the nation’s payments system.
Johnson comes to EPC with a career spanning the public and private sectors. He most recently served as Vice President of U.S. Government Affairs at the Managed Funds Association. Prior to that, Johnson spent eight years at a government affairs and business consulting firm specializing in financial services policy, where he advised and represented some of the world’s leading financial institutions before Congress, the Treasury Department, the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, and other federal agencies. Johnson also spent nearly a decade in government, serving as an advisor on financial services policy in both the House and Senate, and as the federal policy director for Governor John Kasich.
“Erik’s vast experience across industry and government makes him uniquely suited for this role,” said EPC Executive Chairman Richard Hunt. “His deep understanding of financial services policy, combined with the relationships he’s built across Capitol Hill, will be invaluable to our members as we continue to fight for a payments system working for consumers and small businesses alike.”
“EPC has been at the forefront of protecting a system millions of Americans rely on every day, and I’m excited to join EPC at such an important time for payments policy,” Johnson said. “I look forward to leveraging my experiences to keep our payments system secure, competitive, and accessible.”
Johnson earned his MBA from the University of Maryland and his BS in Business Management from The Ohio State University.
