WASHINGTON, DC – EPC Executive Chairman, Richard Hunt, released the following statement after Congressman French Hill (AR-02) was elected to serve as the next Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee:
“For the past decade, Congressman French Hill has been a well-respected expert on a wide range of financial issues, working with both sides of the aisle. His tenure has been marked by a commitment to fair regulation and thoughtful policy that benefits businesses and consumers alike.
“Earlier this year, Congressman Hill, along with several other senior members of the House Financial Services Committee, voiced strong opposition to the Durbin-Marshall Credit Card Mandate Bill. As incoming Chairman, Hill rightly noted, this bill has not had a single relevant committee hearing. It represents bad policy that disadvantages small businesses and jeopardizes consumer security—all so the largest corporate mega-stores can increase their profits.
“The Durbin-Marshall Bill is nothing more than an experimental government takeover of your credit card. We look forward to working with Chairman-elect Hill to continue advocating for policies that protect consumers, promote innovation, and strengthen the U.S. economy.”
